Google has launched a beta feature that enables users to listen to real-time language translations through headphones, marking a major step in enhancing its translation and language-learning capabilities.
The new function, available on the Google Translate app, delivers live translations while maintaining the speaker’s tone, emphasis and natural speech rhythm, allowing users to follow conversations more seamlessly.
According to Google, the feature can be used for multilingual conversations, listening to speeches or lectures while travelling, or viewing foreign-language television programmes and films. Users simply need to open the Translate app, select “Live translate,” and listen through their headphones.
The beta feature is currently rolling out on Android devices in the United States, Mexico and India. It supports more than 70 languages, including Sinhala, and works with any standard headphones. Google said the feature will be expanded to iOS devices and additional countries in 2026.
