Passara situation under control

The situation in Passara has been brought under control following a protests in the area today over the murder of a youth, the police said.

Our reporter in the area said that the Sinhalese boy, Namal Indika, had been found killed last night and it was believed he was killed over a relationship he had with a Muslim girl.

Area residents and friends of the murdered youth staged a protest today demanding that the police arrest those responsible for the murder.

The police subsequently arrested two suspects this afternoon and the situation in the area has now returned to normalcy.

First batch of Tamil detainees to be freed

The first batch of Tamil detainees will be set free tomorrow, the Prisons Department said today after being informed of the decision by the relevant authorities.
