INS Vikrant, India’s Indigenous Aircraft Carrier, Docks at Colombo Harbour

The Indian Navy’s indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant, arrived at Colombo Harbour yesterday (26), following an invitation extended by the Sri Lanka Navy to participate in the upcoming International Fleet Review 2025 (IFR).

Commissioned in 2022 as India’s first fully indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant represents a major milestone in the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities and shipbuilding achievements. The vessel’s visit underscores the longstanding tradition of goodwill between India and Sri Lanka, further consolidating mutual trust and bilateral cooperation, according to the Indian Navy.

The Sri Lanka Navy is hosting the fleet review as part of its 75th-anniversary celebrations, bringing together naval vessels from several countries. The event reflects Colombo’s intent to underscore its expanding role in regional maritime diplomacy and foster stronger international naval collaboration.

Man deported from Oman arrested at BIA by CID

A Tamil youth has been?arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after being deported from Oman, the police media unit said today. Court issues arrest warrant on Gnanasara Thera

The Homagama Magistrate issued an arrest warrant today on the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena, the venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera. The arrest warrant was issued after the monk had allegedly disrespected court during proceedings into the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda.
