Father of girl abducted in Kandy denies claim cause was love affair

The father of a girl abducted in Kandy denied claims that the cause was an alleged love affair between the girl and the suspect.

He insisted that the girl was held by force for a Rs. 5 million ransom and that part of the money had been transferred to an account of the suspect.

The 18-year-old girl was abducted in broad daylight on the street in Gelioya, Kandy on Saturday and was found in Ampara on Monday.

The main suspect was arrested while he was attempting to take the girl back to Kandy from Ampara.

The father of the girl said that the main suspect, a relative of the girl, was arrested following a Police operation where the calls of the suspect were traced.

He claimed that the suspect had also threatened to kill the girl if the ransom was not paid.

The father said that allegations of a love affair between the girl and the suspect were being used to mislead the investigations.? (Colombo Gazette)

Twelve year old child contracts coronavirus

A 12 year old child has tested positive for the coronavirus, the Health Ministry said today. The Health Ministry said that the child is from Rajanganaya. The Health Ministry said that PCR tests had confirmed that the child had contracted the virus. With the detection the total number of coronavirus patients in Sri Lanka rose to 2,688 this evening. Two remanded for sexually abusing and murdering toddler

Two suspects who were arrested on charges of sexually abusing and murdering a 16 month old toddler in the Periyamulla area in Negombo have been remanded till 28 July.
