Speaker to make statement over controversy surrounding doctorate

Speaker Asoka Ranwala is to make a statement regarding the controversy surrounding his doctorate, which has been removed from the Parliament website.

Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the Government will await his statement before making any comments.

“The Speaker will make a clear statement on this,” Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa told reporters on Tuesday.

His comments came after it was revealed that the Speaker did not seem have such a doctorate.

When asked what steps will be taken against the Speaker if the claims are true, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the Government will first wait for the Speaker’s statement.

He said that if the claims that the Speaker does not have a doctorate are false even then there is an issue. (Colombo Gazette)
