At least 19 injured as bus topples in Akuressa

At least 19 people sustained injuries after a bus toppled down a precipice in Akuressa today. The Police said that a private bus traveling from Deniyaya to Akuressa had attempted to overtake another bus and toppled down the precipice. The drivers of both buses were arrested.

Chief of National Intelligence Sisira Mendis resigns

State Intelligence chief Sisira Mendis has resigned from his post with immediate effect. Macau’s football chiefs have said they will not send a team to Sri Lanka for a World Cup qualifying match this week, citing security fears following the deadly Easter suicide attacks.
