Udaya claims No-Confidence will secure more than 113 votes

Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila claims the No-Confidence motion of the opposition will secure more than 113 votes in Parliament.

He said that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya was informed earlier not to go ahead with the No-Confidence motion without securing the support of 113 MPs.

Speaking to reporters today, Gammanpila claimed the No-Confidence motion now has the support of 120 MPs.

He said the 120 includes the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, 39 independent MPs, and 10 ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs.

Gammanpila also said that there are a number of other SLPP MPs who are expected to vote in support of the motion.

He also said that a campaign was launched last weekend to secure support for Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Gammanpila said that the campaign was to obtain the signatures of a majority of the SLPP MPs.

However, he claimed the SLPP was able to secure only 46 signatures so that attempt was shelved. (Colombo Gazette)
