Engine driver, others interdicted over Polgahawela train accident

The?engine driver of the train involved in the?Polgahawela train accident yesterday and a few others have been?interdicted pending the outcome of an investigation.

The engine driver, assistant driver, guard and assistance guard of the Rambukkana-bound train which was involved in the accident have been interdicted.

Several passengers were injured following the accident involving two trains in?Polgahawela.

A passenger train had crashed into another train which had broken down and was parked on the same track?near the Polgahawela Railway Station.

At least 32 passengers were injured in the accident and were taken to hospital.

Train services along the line were disrupted as a result of the accident.

However, train services on the line returned to normal today.?(Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka, China sign deal to co-build dendro power plant

Sri Lanka and China on Friday signed a joint venture agreement to construct Sri Lanka’s largest dendro power plant in Moneragala in the country’s south, the Xinhua news agency reported. Workers attached to the?Hambantota port today suspend a hunger strike following talks with the authorities. The workers had been protesting against a deal reached between a Chinese company and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority to operate the Hambantota port.
