Teens arrested for highway crime

The police say they have arrested three teenagers, aged 19, 16 and 15, for pelting stones at vehicles on the southern expressway.

In a special media release this evening, the police media unit said that the teens were arrested following an operation conducted by the highway patrol unit.

The police said that the teens had pelted stones at a Maruti car on the highway yesterday causing damages to the vehicle.

Following the incident a special operation was launched and the teens were later arrested. The teens were produced in court today.

The police media unit said that the 19 year old was remanded till the 24^th of this month while the other two, who are considered underage, were handed over to a rehabilitation home.

Meanwhile the Magistrate has also ordered that the three teens meet a psychologist.

SAITM students to be transferred to Kotelawala Defence University

A decision has been taken to transfer the medical students of the Malabe SAITM medical campus to the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU). Cabinet approves Central Expressway 3rd phase contract to Japanese firm

Cabinet has approved awarding the contract for the third phase of the Central Expressway project to a Japanese company. The third phase of the Central Expressway project will be from Pothuhera to Galagedera via Rambukkana covering a distance of 32.5km.
