Former SLMC General Secretary Hasan Ali signs deal with SLPP

Former Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Parliamentarian and General Secretary Hasan Ali signed an agreement with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna today extending support to Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Hasan Ali signed the agreement with the SLPP on behalf of his party, the United Peace Alliance.

Ali left the SLMC after a rift with the party and later formed his own political party.

This week his party, the United Peace Alliance had decided to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the election.

SLPP National Organiser Basil Rajapaksa attended the event held to sign the working agreement between the SLPP and the United Peace Alliance today.

Jordanian Police fire tear gas on Sri Lankan migrant workers

Jordanian Police fired tear gas on Sri Lankan migrant workers who staged a protest today, demanding that they be sent back home. Tear gas had been fired after a tense situation arose between the stranded migrant workers and Sri Lankan Embassy authorities. Local media showed the migrant workers being attacked with tear gas forcing most of them to flee. The women had accused Sri Lankan authorities of failing to take steps to send them back home. Vigilant committees to be formed in schools

Vigilant committees are to be formed in schools to protect school children from drug abuse, Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (Retd) Kamal Gunaratne said today.
