Ravi warns of elements with hidden agenda in CB

Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake today warned of some elements in the Central Bank (CB) who have a hidden agenda.

He said that these elements were controlling the Rupee and looking to destabilise the economy.

Karunanayake said that the Sri Lankan Rupee depreciated when the unity Government was in office but appreciated when Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed Prime Minister under controversial circumstances.

He noted that after Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed Prime Minister once again and the United National Front was appointed to the cabinet, the Rupee?depreciated again.

Karunanayake said that if the Rupee is appreciating when Mahinda is in power and depreciating when Wickremesinghe is in power, that shows that someone is manipulating the value of the Rupee from within the Central Bank.

He said that those elements must be removed from the?Central Bank without further delay. (Colombo Gazette)

A Covid patient from Atalugama in Bandaragama is reported to have obstructed the duties of a Public Health Inspector (PHI) engaged in Covid ?related duties.
