Ex LTTE member’s case to be heard by EU Court of Justice

A former member of the LTTE?who claimed asylum in the UK under an EU directive on the basis he would face torture if returned to Sri Lanka has had his application referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union as no authorities are on point. The appellant is a Sri Lankan national who arrived in the UK in January 2005 aged 28. He was given leave to enter as a student and his leave to remain was extended to 30 September 2008. Mahinda says “wait and see” when asked about new political party

Rohitha, Shriyani injured during joint opposition protest in Fort

Parliamentarian and former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena and Parliamentarian Shriyani Wijewickrama sustained injuries during a protest staged in Fort today. The protest was staged by the joint opposition against Central Bank governor Arjuna Mahendran.
