CC approves appointment to Elections Commission

The Constitutional Council has approved the appointment of Saman Sri Rathnayake as the Commissioner General of the National Elections Commission. Rathnayake is the current Director General of the Election Secretariat. The appointment to the post of the Commissioner General would shift Rathnayake to the Nationals Elections Commission and would position him below the Commissioners in the National Elections Commission hierarchy.

Brazilian sentenced to life in prison

A Brazilian national has been sentenced to life in prison for smuggling cocaine into Sri Lanka. The Brazilian had been arrested in February last year with 690 grams of cocaine. The Negombo Magistrate?s Court yesterday sentenced the suspect to life in prison.

Sumathipala banned from SL Cricket

UPFA Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala has been officially banned from holding any position in Sri Lanka Cricket. Minister of Sports Harin Fernando, issuing a directive today (15), formally banned Sumathipala from holding positions in Sri Lanka Cricket henceforth.
