Spread of virus under control in Western Province

The Health Ministry says the spread of the coronavirus has been brought under control in the Western Province.

However, Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that extra caution will be maintained till, at least, Vesak in May.

He said that a decision cannot be reached immediately if normalcy can be restored in the Western Province on 4 May.

Jasinghe said that while the situation is not 100 percent under control, tests are being carried out and health authorities have not lost control of the situation.

He said that even after Vesak the public will need to strictly follow the health guidelines for some time.

Parts of the Western Province, including Colombo, had been identified as high risk areas.

Jasinghe said that daily testing has been increased to detect coronavirus patients.

He also dismissed concerns over testing kits from China saying the quality of the kits are validated before being put to use.?(Colombo Gazette)
