Unauthorised constructions near canals are to be demolished, the?Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development said.
The Ministry said that the Urban Development Authority had been instructed to?demolish unauthorised constructions near canals, particularly in Kaduwela, Kollonawa and Biyagama and adjoining areas.
The?Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development said that it was found that unauthorised constructions around canals were causing floods even when there is light rain in some areas as water does not flow into the canals.
The?Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development noted that with heavy rain now being experienced in the country resulting in floods in some areas, it was necessary to demolish unauthorised constructions near canals to clear the path for flood waters to recede. (Colombo Gazette)
