Five people arrested at sea

The Navy arrested five people as they attempted to enter Sri Lanka illegally by sea, the Navy media unit said today. Naval troops attached to SLNS Thammanna of the North Central Naval Command arrested the five people in the General Area Urumalai. The Navy said that the five people were believed to be residents of Chennai, India. Among those arrested were two males and three females including a three-year old child. They were handed over to TID for further investigations.

Accusations despite defeating terror

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says Sri Lanka has had to face various accusations despite?defeating a terrorist organisation. Speaking at the UPFA May Day rally in Colombo today, the President?said?that the?working?class in Sri Lanka is enjoying the?benefits?of freedom after the war. “Yet we have had to face several accusations after defeating terrorism,” the President said. The President also said that today’s UPFA May Day rally was one of the biggest he has seen during his political career.

US to push for justice in Sri Lanka

The United States (US) says it will continue to support the need for justice and accountability for serious human rights abuses in Sri Lanka.
