Protest near Trinco Navy base suspecting Rajapaksas are inside

A protest was launched near the Trincomalee Navy base suspecting the family of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was being given protection inside.
Helicopters were seen leaving Colombo today with VVIPs and some speculated that they were members of the Rajapaksa family.
There was speculation later that they had been taken to the Trincomalee Navy base.
A mob gathered outside the Trincomalee Navy base and demanded that the Rajapaksas be sent out.
Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa left Temple Trees early this morning, under tight security.
Mobs had surrounded Temple Trees last night and attempted to break-in.
However, the Police fired tear gas while the security forces fired in the air and prevented mobs from moving in.
Rajapaksa tendered his resignation letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday. (Colombo Gazette)
