President meets SLFP members following no-confidence vote

President Maithripala Sirisena met members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) today to discuss the outcome of the no-confidence vote.

Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said that the SLFP members who voted for the?no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, were among those attending the meeting.

Yapa and several other SLFP Ministers of the unity Government voted for the motion which was eventually defeated.

Following the defeat a petition was handed over to the Prime Minister calling for the removal of the Government Ministers who voted for the motion. (Colombo Gazette)

Violence against women rising in Punjab province of Pakistan: Report

Lahore [Pakistan], December 8 (AF): Criminal activities against women in Punjab province of Pakistan have skyrocketed with a surge in sexual crimes by 16 per cent in 2021, a Gender Parity Report by Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) revealed on Thursday. Schools shut as smog, poor air quality hits Sri Lanka

The Government has decided to close all schools in the country tomorrow (Friday) owing to the smog and poor air quality in Sri Lanka. The Education Ministry said that all Government schools will be closed. The Catholic Church said that Catholic schools will also be closed.
