Cabinet approves declaring Theravada Tripitaka a National heritage

Cabinet has approved a proposal by President Maithripala Sirisena to declare the Theravada Tripitaka a National heritage.

Earlier this month,?at a?ceremony held in Matale, the President had declared the Theravada Tripitaka a?National heritage.

?To uphold the Sri Lankan heritage, reflecting values of Buddhism as an integral part that further sustains our culture, I?m declaring the Theravada Tripi?aka as a national treasure of Sri Lanka,? the President had said at the Matale event.

The?Cabinet which met today had decided to approve the move. (Colombo Gazette)

Fears remain oil still inside X-Press Pearl ship
