Suspect hangs himself in Police cell

A suspect has committed suicide while under custody at the Narahenpita Police Station. The Police said the suspect had committed suicide by hanging himself with a lace cord inside his cell last night. The 32 year- old man had been arrested yesterday on charges of financial fraud, after he was accused of forcefully demanding money from some women over a love affair. The body of the suspect, who is a resident of Hanwella, has been placed at the Police Mortuary of the Colombo National Hospital.

Sri Lanka bans seafarers from entering ports

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the Minister of Foreign Relations Dinesh Gunawardena to halt the use of Sri Lankan Ports as transit points for international seafarers. Central Bank approves Rs. 28 Billion in loans to affected businesses

Having identified the urgent need of reviving the businesses adversely affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and thereby to promote economic activity in the country, the Central Bank and the Government of Sri Lanka launched a novel refinance facility under the Saubagya (Prosperity) Loan Scheme, named Saubagya Covid-19 Renaissance Facility, as announced on 24 March 2020.
