Price of a number of medicines increased by 40 percent

The price of a number of medicines have been increased by 40 percent, the Ministry of Health said.

Issuing an Extraordinary Gazette notice, Health Minister Professor Channa Jayasumana amended the Medicines (Ceiling on Prices) Regulations, 2019 published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 2123/35 of May 15, 2019, as amended by regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2241/43 of August 19, 2021 and regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2271/23 of March 15, 2022.

The gazette states that on the date of publication of these regulations, a manufacturer or importer who sells any Scheduled Medicine at a revised retail price under the Medicines (Ceiling on Prices) Regulations of 2019 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2123/35 of May 15, 2019 as amended by the regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2241/43 of August 19, 2021 and regulations published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2271/23 of March 15, 2022 which is less than the maximum retail price specified in Column V of the Schedule to the Mediciness (Ceiling on Prices) Regulations of 2019 published in Gazette Extraordinary No. 2123/35 of May 15, 2019 as amended may increase proportionately such revised retail price by a total forty per centum (40%).

The medicines of which the prices have been increased includes Aspirin, Metformin, and Insulin. (Colombo Gazette)
