India given assurance Hambantota will not be given to foreign Navy

India has been given an assurance that the Hambantota port will not be given to any foreign Navy.

Chief of Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, who is currently in India, dismissed speculations surrounding the Hambantota port.

?I can assure that no action whatsoever will be taken which will jeopardize India?s security concerns,? he said, according to The Hindu newspaper.

Wijegunaratna stated that their leaders had assured India that Sri Lanka would not enter into any military alliances for the security of Hambabtota. It will be done by Sri Lanka armed forces and Navy, he added.

In December last year, Chinese companies took over the Hambantota port on long term lease, raising concerns in India. (Colombo Gazette)

First batch of quarantined returnees released

Air Force insists no move to spray disinfectants from the air tonight

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF ) insists there is no move to spray disinfectants from the air tonight. An Air Force spokesman told Colombo Gazette that a false report was circulating on social media that the Air Force will spray disinfectants from the air tonight to fight the coronavirus. “A false message is being circulated through social media regarding helicopters spraying disinfectants into the air to eradicate the coronavirus at 11.30 pm today. The SLAF will not conduct any such operation,
