Most countries were not keen to give ships during the war, cabinet spokesman Dr Rajitha Senaratne said today.

He said that while China and Pakistan openly gave Sri Lanka military hardware countries like India were not willing to do it openly.

Senaratne said that as a result the Sri Lanka Navy had to use small crafts during the war and not war ships.

Meanwhile, the Defence Attach? of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, Senior Colonel Xu Jianwei called on the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe at the Navy Headquarters this week.

During the cordial interactions that ensued after the exchange of pleasantries, the Senior Colonel Jianwei extended his best wishes to Vice Admiral Ranasinghe on his new appointment as the 22nd Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy. (Colombo Gazette)

CID to record statements from Hakeem, Rishad on Easter attacks

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) hopes to record statements from former Ministers Rishad Bathiudeen and Rauff Hakeem over the Easter Sunday attacks. The Colombo Additional Magistrate was informed today that the CID has also sought to record statements from former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya. The court was told that a statement is to be recorded from Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith after Christmas.

Associate of Angoda Lokka arrested with heroin

An associate of underworld figure Angoda Lokka has been arrested with heroin, the Police said. The suspect was arrested in the Brandiyawatte area in Wellampitiya by the Special Task Force. The suspect is believed to be linked to the drug smuggling and extortion operations of Angoda Lokka. The suspect was in the possession of 26g and 800mg of heroin at the time of the arrest.
