Karunanidhi says 13A facing uncertainty

Tamil Nadu opposition DMK leader M. Karunanidhi says the 13th Amendment to the Sri Lankan constitution, an Indian mediated concept giving autonomy especially for provinces, was facing an uncertain future with demands for its scrapping from pro-Sinhala parties.
While a section of the ruling class was opposed to it, Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse was reported to have said that Colombo cannot toe India’s line on the issue, the Press Trust of India quoted Karunanidhi’s party mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ as saying.
Karunanidhi recalled that External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had last week asked Sri Lanka not to make any attempts to “weaken” the 13th amendment and added that in such a situation it was doubtful if elections would be held there this year as scheduled.

List of 18 inmates on death row submitted to Justice Ministry

A list of 18 inmates on death row has been submitted to the Justice Ministry as the Government looks to implement the death sentence on them. The inmates had been sentenced to death over drug related offences and have been serving life in prison as the death sentence was not implemented in Sri Lanka.
