South Asian Icons Featured in 21st Century Global Merit Poll

Impact Hallmarks (IH) has nominated 20 distinguished icons from South Asia and China for the Quarticentennial Merited Impacts Gazette©️ (2000–2025), an international initiative documenting the most transformative contributions of the first quarter of the 21st century. The poll, under the theme “The Mirror of Rectitude,” shortlisted 181 icons from 1.9 million notables across 195 countries. Voting is open at https://www.impacthallmarks.org/#voting.

From India, nominees include Kailash Satyarthi for child rights advocacy, engineer Nitesh Kumar Jangir for affordable neonatal medical technologies, molecular biologist Dr. Fathima Benazir J. for safer lab innovations, and mountaineer Arunima Sinha for summiting Mount Everest as a female amputee.

Pakistan’s nominees include Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi for cross-disciplinary research, Dr. Muhammad Amjad Saqib for pioneering interest-free microfinance, Parveen Saeed for community kitchens, activists Ghulam Bisher Hafi and Ubaida Al Fiddhah Hafiah for humanitarian campaigns, and humanitarian icons Bilquis Bano Edhi and Dr. Ruth Pfau.

Sri Lankan nominees include Dr. Jehan Perera for peace and human rights, astrophysicist Prof. Chandra Wickramasinghe for contributions to astrobiology, marine scientist Dr. Asha de Vos for ocean conservation, and Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne for grassroots development.

Bangladesh’s Prof. Muhammad Yunus is recognized for his interest-free “Struggling Members Program,” and Nepal’s Pushpa Basnet for programmes rescuing and educating children of incarcerated parents. China is represented by Chen Si, Fields Medalist Shing-Tung Yau, and environmental advocate Yi Jiefang.

IH emphasises that the Gazette is merit-driven, not a popularity contest, highlighting individuals whose work has left a lasting global impact. The opinion poll invites global recognition for achievements written in the “indelible ink of merit.”
