Qatar Reaffirms Continued Support for Cyclone-Hit Sri Lanka

The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, promising sustained humanitarian aid and assistance to affected communities.

The announcement followed a meeting between H.E. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, and H.E. Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Sri Lanka’s Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and exploring avenues of support from Qatar, including emergency relief, early recovery assistance, rehabilitation of critical infrastructure, and programs to protect livelihoods.

During the meeting, Minister Al Misnad highlighted Qatar’s ongoing humanitarian role and emphasized the importance of identifying urgent intervention priorities to ensure an effective and sustainable response for communities impacted by the cyclone.

Dr. Fernando expressed Sri Lanka’s gratitude for Qatar’s solidarity and readiness to support the nation in times of crisis, acknowledging the enduring partnership between the two countries in responding to natural disasters.

The discussions underscored both nations’ commitment to coordinated recovery efforts, aiming to address immediate needs while laying the groundwork for long-term resilience in affected regions.

Most of the schools closed in Kandy to reopen next week

Several schools in the Kandy city- limits that were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic will reopen from next week. Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage said 42 schools out of the 45 schools that were closed will be reopened on Monday (14). The coronavirus forced the closure of 45 schools in Kandy from 25 November to 04 December. Coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka reaches 146

The coronavirus death toll in Sri Lanka reached 146 today. The Government Information Department said that two more coronavirus deaths were reported today. Of the latest victims, one was a 66-year-old female from Colombo 02. She was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital from the Colombo General Hospital.
