Foreign Ministry Sets Up Emergency Unit to Support Flood-Affected Sri Lankans

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism has established an Emergency Coordination Unit to manage and streamline relief efforts for Sri Lankans impacted by the recent floods.
According to the Ministry, the initiative underscores the Government’s commitment to providing timely assistance and maintaining effective communication during this critical period.
The newly established unit will function as the central hub for coordinating donations received from Sri Lankan missions overseas, foreign diplomatic missions in Sri Lanka, and other stakeholders. Officials noted that all contributions will be allocated to support flood-affected communities, with transparency and accountability ensured throughout the process.
In addition to managing relief donations, the Emergency Coordination Unit will act as a focal point for Sri Lankans living abroad who are seeking information about relatives in affected areas. It will also facilitate the routing of assistance from overseas well-wishers, ensuring that international support reaches those in need swiftly and efficiently.
The Ministry added that the unit is working closely with the President’s Office, Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Defence, and other relevant agencies to ensure a coordinated and comprehensive response to the ongoing disaster.
