Hundreds of Tamils in Sri Lanka commemorate war victims

Hundreds of Tamils in Sri Lanka, including some in Colombo, commemorated the victims of the war between the military and the LTTE, especially those killed during the final stages of the conflict.

Commemoration events were held in Wellawatta, Batticaloa, Jaffna and Mullivaikal.

The event in Mullivaikal saw hundreds attending and mourning the victims of the war.

This was the first time commemoration events were held in Sri Lanka by Tamils to remember the victims of the war after the Anura Kumara Disanayake administration took office.

Sri Lanka on Sunday marked the end of the war in which thousands of people were killed.

The military was accused of killing thousands of civilians during the final battle against the LTTE, particularly in Mullivaikal.

The Sri Lankan Government at the time denied the allegation and said that civilians were used as human shields by the LTTE.
