Court frees 31 Tamil prisoners on bail

The Colombo Chief Magistrate today released on bail 31 Tamil political prisoners after the Attorney General gave the approval after a delay. The suspects arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) were brought to the court this morning but at that time the court had not received?the documents from the AG to free the inmates on bail. However several hours later the 31 prisoners were brought to court again and produced before the Magistrate and released on bail. (Colombo Gazette)

Two arrested at BIA with foreign currency

Two people were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) with foreign currency valued at over Rs 40 million. The customs department said that the two men are Sri Lankan Nationals aged 30 and 45 and are residents of Colombo. On being investigated the two men had US$ 229,500 and Euro 50,000 valued at Rs. 40,752,736.00 concealed in their waists. President holds special discussion on resettlement

President Maithripala Sirisena held a special discussion today on the resettlement of displaced families in the North and East. Several Ministers as well as the Chief Minister of the Eastern Province took part in the discussion. The issues faced by the war displaced people and the efforts which need to be taken to resettle all those displaced had been discussed at the meeting. (Colombo Gazette)
