Speaker imposes ban on live broadcast of MP Archchuna?s statements

Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne has decided to impose a temporary ban on the live broadcast of speeches made in Parliament by Jaffna District MP Ramanathan Archchuna.

The Speaker told Parliament the decision was taken as the MP continued to make derogatory and insulting statements in Parliament.

Wickramaratne said that the broadcast of live video or audio statements of the MP made in Parliament on March 20, 21, April 8, 9, 10, May 6, 7 and 8 will be banned.

The Speaker said that the ban was imposed after the MP continued to ignore repeated warnings.

He said that the ban will be lifted if there is a notable change in the behavior of the MP. (Colombo Gazette)

Woman and her two children murdered in Trinco

A woman and her two children were murdered in Trincomalee, the police media unit said. The police said the husband of the woman was arrested on suspicion of committing the crime. The bodies of the 32 year old woman and her 8 and 10 year old children were found in their house this morning. (Colombo Gazette)
