Uproar after female doctor is sexually assaulted in Anuradhapura hospital

A huge uproar has erupted in Sri Lanka after a female doctor was sexually assaulted at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

Doctors at the hospital launched a strike on Tuesday demanding the arrest of the suspect, believed to be an army deserter.

He had entered the dormitory for medical officers when the female doctor had returned from work and threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.

Special Police teams have been deployed to arrest the suspect. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lanka set to host Mrs. World 2021 pageant

Sri Lanka will host the 2021 Mrs. World pageant, the Mrs. World organisers announced. The announcement was made at a media conference held in Colombo. The reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie from Sri Lanka attended the press conference. Jurie became the second Sri Lankan to be crowned Mrs World at a pageant held in Las Vegas USA last December. Rosy Senanayake won the crown in 1984 at the finals held in Australia, at the inception of the contest. (Colombo Gazette)

Two Lankan students from South Korea admitted to hospital

A group of Sri Lankan students from coronavirus – hit South Korea arrived in Sri Lanka this morning. The group reportedly consisted of 137 Sri Lankan students. Two students among the group have been admitted to the Negombo District General Hospital. The students had shown symptoms of fever and flu. (Colombo Gazette)
