Yoshitha Rajapaksa’s grandmother arrested

Daisy Forest, the maternal grandmother of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over money laundering allegations.

The Police said that Daisy Forest was arrested after being questioned by the CID.

She was later released on bail by the Kaduwela Magistrate?s Court.

An overseas travel ban had been imposed on Daisy Forrest last month over investigations being carried out into a Rs. 59 million joint bank account.

The Police said that Yoshitha Rajapaksa was unable to clarify how Rs. 59 million was accumulated in the joint bank account.

The Kaduwela Magistrate?s Court imposed the overseas travel ban on Daisy Forrest and named her as a suspect in the case.

Rajapaksa also has an overseas travel ban imposed on him after he was arrested and later released in January. (Colombo Gazette)

Sri Lankan book achieves world record for most number of alternate endings

A Sri Lankan book has achieved a world record for the most number of alternate endings. The book ?Wonder Crystal? written by Mrs. Sybil Wettasinghe was recognised as a Guinness World Record for the most number of alternate endings. The book was an initiative by Munchee and was launched with the objective of encouraging children to use their imagination and explore their creativity and thus complete the story by contributing through their writings, drawings and poetry. Akila offers to resign as UNP General Secretary

United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has offered to resign from his post. He has told UNP seniors he will step down if it will help unite the UNP and prevent a split, UNP sources said. Sources said that Kariyawasam has informed UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe about his willingness to step down. However, he has not tendered his resignation as yet, sources said. (Colombo Gazette)
