President insists he is not taking revenge on Mahinda

President Anura Kumara Disanayake insisted he is not taking revenge on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa by attempting to take back the house he has been given in Colombo.

In an interview on Sirasa TV, Disanayake said that he is fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people.

He noted that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe did not ask for a Government house after losing the last election and instead moved to his private house.

The President said that former first lady Hema Premadasa also gave back the Government house that was given to her.

Disanayake said that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had also returned the Government house that was given to him.

He said that only former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa, Chandrika Kumaratunga and Maithripala Sirisena are occupying Government houses.

The President said that after a valuation it was determined that the rent of the house occupied by Rajapaksa will be an estimated Rs 4.6M a month.

Disanayake said that there is no justification for Rajapaksa to continue to occupy the Government house in Colombo.

He said that as President he needs to fulfil the mandate given to him and that is all he is doing and not attempting to take revenge. (Colombo Gazette)
