President appoints new Army and Navy Commanders

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday appointed?Major General Lasantha Rodrigo as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army and Rear Admiral Kanchana Banagoda as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The appointment letters were handed over by the Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.

The new Army and Navy Commanders replace outgoing Army Chief, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage and Admiral Priyantha Perera.

Major General Rodrigo previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and as the Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College. (Colombo Gazette)

Hirunika Premachandra sentenced to 3 years in jail

Former Member of Parliament Hirunika Premachandra has been sentenced to three years in jail over the alleged abduction of a youth in 2015. The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member has been sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court.
