Two bodies recovered so far following Karaithivu tragedy

Two bodies have been recovered so far following the Karaithivu tragedy and a search operation is continuing for the remaining 6 missing people.

Among the two bodies recovered were that of one of the missing children.

The security forces are assisting in the search operation to locate the missing people from the tractor which was washed away by the flood in Karaithivu, Ampara.

Eight people including at least 6 children were reported missing after flood waters wash away the tractor in Karaithivu on Wednesday.

The Police said that 13 people were on the tractor at the time of the incident.

The tractor had toppled while crossing flood waters in Karaitivu.

The Police said the missing children are aged between 12 and 16 and are residents of Sammanthurai.

A red alert was issued earlier as a storm lashed parts of Sri Lanka?resulting in flash floods and earth-slips.?(Colombo?Gazette)
