Namal Rajapaksa heading for humiliating defeat

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa is heading for a humiliating defeat at the 2024 Presidential Election.

Results in so far (5am Sri Lanka Time) show Namal Rajapaksa at 5th place with just 10,233 votes.

National Peoples Power (NPP) Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake is leading with over 300,000 votes, followed by Sajith Premadasa, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Tamil Common candidate P. Ariyanenthiran.

Namal Rajapaksa was a last minute nominee by the SLPP after Dhamika Perera withdrew from running from President.

With mostly the postal vote results released so far, the count will see a drastic change when the overall results are released.

However, based on early indications most Rajapaksa loyalists have rejected another Rajapaksa from being elected President.? (Colombo Gazette)
