Fowzie slapped with suspended sentence for misusing Ministry vehicle

Former Minister A. H. M. Fowzie has been slapped with a two year rigorous imprisonment, suspended for 10 years, by the Colombo High Court over the misuse of a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Disaster Management.??

Fowzie pleaded guilty over the charge that he misused the vehicle while he was the Minister of Disaster Management in 2010.

According to reports Fowzie spent nearly Rs 1 million from the Finance Ministry?s funds for the maintenance of the vehicle.

Fowzie returned to Parliament last year as a member of Parliament of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).

Fowzie recently extended support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe. (Colombo Gazette)
