One Sri Lankan, 8 Indians rescued at sea after ship capsized

Indian Navy’s warship INS Teg has rescued nine crew members, including one Sri Lankan, who went missing after an oil tanker capsized off the coast of Oman.

The navy warship was deployed for the search and rescue assistance for the capsized oil tanker and 16 crew.

Of the nine members rescued, eight are Indians and one is from Sri Lanka.

The operations are being conducted in challenging weather conditions as the area is experiencing rough seas and strong winds.

The Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is also assisting in the search for survivors.

The oil tanker was en route to the Yemeni port city of Aden, according to marinetraffic.com.

After being capsized, the oil tanker transmitted a distress call around 10 pm on July 15 off the coast of Oman, said reports. (India Blooms)

Eight Indian fishermen arrested in the North

Eight Indian fishermen were arrested in the North while poaching in Sri Lankan waters, the Navy said today. The Navy said that the coast guard arrested the Indians and seized two boats off the Delft islands today. The fishermen were handed over to the Navy and they were brought ashore to Karainagar. Over 1600 families around Kelani valley to be shifted

Over 1600 families living around the Kelani valley railway line are to be shifted to a new location, Transport Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
