Galle Face protesters given deadline to go home

Protesters at ?Gota Go Gama? at Galle Face have been told to vacate the premises before 5pm on August 5th.

The Police today warned that legal action will be taken against those who fail to leave the premises.

The Police made an announcement at the protest site this evening informing the demonstrators to remove the tents and all other illegal structures by 5th August.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe had told Parliament today that designated protest sites have been named in Colombo and Kandy.

He urged the public to stage peaceful protests only at those locations and withdraw from other areas.

The President also insisted that there is no move to crackdown on peaceful protests.

President Wickremesinghe denied claims he is hunting down peaceful protesters.

However, he told Parliament that legal action will be taken against those engaged in violence and terrorism.?(Colombo Gazette)

UNP wants Parliament dissolved soon

The United National Party (UNP) says the current Parliament does not have a mandate to continue further and so it should be dissolved soon. UNP MP and Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith P. Next election under existing system

The next election will be held under the existing electoral system, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has told minor political parties.
