Government says peaceful protesters have withdrawn

The Government says peaceful protesters who were engaged in the struggle at Galle Face had withdrawn after President Ranil Wockremesinghe assumed duties.?
Chief Government Whip, Prasanna Ranatunga, told Parliament that drug addicts and others are among those who are continuing the protest at Galle Face.
He said that the protest at Galle Face began under the slogan “Gota Go Home” and named the protest site as Gota Go Gama.
Ranatunga said the protesters assured they will withdraw from Galle Face after Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns.
The Minister said that with Rajapaksa resigning there was no basis for the protest to continue at Galle Face.
He said the peaceful protesters have withdrawn from Galle Face and drug addicts, criminals and others remain at the protest site.
“This place has become a paradise for drugs,” he said.
Ranatunga also said that as the Minister of Urban Development, he proposed that the protest site near the Presidential Secretariat be moved to another location.
He said the protest site poses a threat to the Colombo Port City and tourist hotels in the area. (Colombo Gazette)
