President elect invites opposition to work with him

President-elect Ranil Wickremesinghe today invited the opposition to work with him to meet the aspirations of the people.

Speaking in Parliament after being elected as the new President, Wickremesingh said that the people want all the political parties in Parliament to work together to address the critical issues in the country.

He called on the political parties in Parliament to work with him to create a new system.

Wickremesinghe was elected President by Parliament today securing 134 votes.

MP Dullas Alahapperuma secured 82 votes while MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake secured just 03 votes.

Of the 225 members of Parliament 223 had cast their votes of which four were declared invalid.
