Suspect arrested over murder of Atulugama child

A suspect has been arrested over the murder of a child in Atulugama, the Police said.

Investigations revealed that the child was not raped but was forcibly drowned.

The 29-year-old suspect is said to be a resident of Atulugama in Bandaragama.

Fatima Ayesha was reported missing in Atulugama on Friday and her body was found on Saturday.

The 9-year-old girl was believed to have been abducted and killed.

Fatima Ayesha was reported missing after she went to a nearby shop to purchase some items.

CCTV footage showed the girl going to the shop to purchase the goods before she went missing.

Her body was found in a marshland close to her house.

The Bandaragama Police and the Crimes Investigations Division of the Panadura Police are investigating the incident.?(Colombo Gazette)
