Demonstrations held in support of Gotabaya

Demonstrations were held today at a number of places in support of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The demonstrators said that the President must not resign and must remain in office together with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A similar demonstration was staged yesterday as well in some parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the protest staged at Galle Face against the Government, which has now been given the slogan ?Occupy Galle Face?, continued today despite the adverse weather.

Some of the protesters stayed at Galle Face since last night braving the heavy rain and strong winds.

The protest is being staged against President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his Government.

Protests have been taking place around the country over the past couple of weeks following an economic crisis that has severely affected the public.

The crisis has seen a shortage of fuel, gas and food while power cuts have also been enforced.

The Cabinet stepped down following the recent protests while an interim Cabinet was appointed to ensure key operations continue.

However, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa have so far refused to step down.?(Colombo Gazette)
