Twelve Colombo University students granted bail

Twelve students arrested over an assault incident at the Colombo University have been granted bail. The 12 students were arrested last week and remanded till today. The students were involved in a heated exchange in the university canteen which led to one student being assaulted. A video of the incident which has gone viral on social media shows a boy being assaulted by a group of students. The student who was assaulted was later admitted to hospital. (Colombo Gazette)

Ranjan Ramanayake arrested

United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) today. He was arrested at his official residence at Madiwela, on an arrest warrant issued by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s court. The Attorney General had directed the CCD to obtain a warrant and arrest Ramanayake. The European Union (EU) has maintained the LTTE as a banned terrorist organisation. The Council of the EU renewed the so-called EU terrorist list, which sets out persons, groups and entities subject to restrictive measures with a view to combating terrorism.
