Stolen car shot at by cops in Giriulla

A stolen car was shot at by the Police in Giriulla today following which two suspects were arrested.

The Police said that the car had been stolen by two men after being obtained on hire with a driver.

The two men had tied the driver and stolen the car last evening.

A Police complaint was made over the incident and Police roadblocks were placed in several areas.

Police officers at a roadblock had ordered the car to stop when it was seen in Yaka Bedelia this morning.

However the car had not stopped and the Police opened fire damaging one of the tyres.

The two suspects were arrested after the vehicle came to a halt after being shot at.

No one was injured in the shooting incident. (Colombo Gazette)

Individual shot dead in Galle by gunmen on motorcycle

An individual was shot dead in Galle by gunmen on a motorcycle today, the police media unit said. The police said the victim was a 42 year old man and that he was shot dead in Dikkumbara in Galle. Investigations are underway.

GMOA doctors practicing at private hospitals during strike

Some doctors of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) are practicing at private hospitals during a strike today, the Government alleged today. Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera alleged that one?GMOA doctor has already accepted consultation requests at the Nawaloka hospital. He said that the GMOA?doctor was practicing at a private hospital while launching a protest at Government hospitals. The GMOA had launched a 24 hour strike today over the SAITM issue.
