Close associates of notorious criminals arrested

Close associates of two notorious criminals have been arrested in two separate incidents.

The Police said that two close accomplices of organized crime gang member and drug dealer ?Seethawa Podda? were arrested in Avissawella by the Police Special Task Force (STF).

Two accomplices of underworld criminal figure ?Barrel Sanka? were also arrested in the Peliyagoda area.

The Police had seized over 4 grams of heroin from the possession of the suspects.

The two men are to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate?s Court today. (Colombo Gazette)

Deported Sri Lankans arrive home

A group of 25 Sri Lankans deported from the UK has arrived in Sri Lanka, amid warnings that Tamils among them may be tortured. UK officials said on Wednesday that 60 failed asylum seekers and visa overstayers were being sent back. But many won last-minute court injunctions preventing their return. JHU led protest against UN team

Hundreds of Sri Lankans protested Thursday against a visit by U.N. officials to discuss human rights issues during the country’s civil war.
