War declared on Aedes mosquito to stop spread of dengue

War has been declared on the Aedes mosquito to stop the spread of dengue.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that Sri Lanka could face a twin crisis if the spread of dengue is not prevented.

He said that while steps are being taken to contain the spread of the coronavirus, failure to ensure breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito are not eliminated will result in the spread of dengue.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe noted that while fever is one of the symptoms for the coronavirus, dengue could complicate things as the mosquito-borne disease also results in patients having fever.

He urged the public to ensure steps are taken to eliminate breeding grounds for the Aedes mosquito, especially areas where water can stagnate. (Colombo Gazette)
