Heavy rain expected in several parts of the country today

Several spells of showers will occur in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces today, the department of meteorology said. Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places elsewhere after 2.00 pm. Fairly heavy falls (more than 75 mm) are also likely at some places. There may be temporary localised strong winds during thundershowers. The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
