Foreign vessel with narcotics being brought to Dickovita

A foreign vessel, which was seized by the Sri Lanka Navy off the Southern Coast on charges of smuggling narcotics worth over Rs.10 billion, is to be transported to the Dickovita Fisheries Harbour tomorrow (01).

The Navy said the vessel was seized on 28 March during a surveillance conducted by the offshore patrol vessel SLNS Sayura.

A large haul of narcotics, consisting 500kg of ICE, 500kg of cocaine, 200 packets of Babul and 100g of narcotic pills, were seized from the vessel, the Navy said.

According to the Navy, this is the third foreign vessel to be seized in Sri Lankan waters on charges of smuggling narcotics within the last 2 months.

The Navy added that the vessel will be transported to the Dickovita Fisheries Harbour for further inspection. (Colombo Gazette)

Essential services including health staff to work tomorrow

All staff of essential services including health staff have been instructed to report to work tomorrow (Monday) despite it being a special holiday. The Government Information Department said that tomorrow (Monday) is a special public, bank and mercantile holiday as announced earlier. However health workers have been told it is not a holiday for them. All wholesale and retail traders have also been advised to remain open. (Colombo Gazette)

The Presidential Task Force established to combat the coronavirus in Sri Lanka has announced a special hotline for the public to obtain information regarding the situation. Accordingly, inquiries or notifications could be made on the hotline 117 with effect from 8pm tonight (Sunday). (Colombo Gazette)
