Body of first coronavirus victim in Sri Lanka cremated

The body of the first coronavirus victim in Sri Lanka was cremated this morning (Sunday), officials said.

The body was cremated at the Kotikawatta cemetery under tight Police security.

Officials said that two relatives were allowed to the identify the victim before the body was taken to the cemetery.

A Judicial Medical Officer and Public Health Officers were at the cemetery to ensure the body was cremated under accepted international regulations.

The 60-year-old man died while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda yesterday.

The man was a diabetic patient and had also undergone kidney transplant. (Colombo Gazette)
